HISTORY
1953
Founded in 1953, a A. J. Costa (Irmãos), Lda was immediately involved in the manufacture of surgical instruments in stainless steel, intended for hospitals, health centers and clinics.
1957
Manufacture of first vertical sterilizers and stainless steel utensils.
1960
Releasing of machines for the cleaning and disinfection of basins in the market – the first bedpan washers – as well as dry heat sterilizers.
1978
Construction of new facilities. Following the research and development (R & D) project, the first horizontal sterilizer was introduced in the market, taking advantage of the experience and know-how acquired in the manufacture of vertical autoclaves.
1980
After the construction of the first phase of the new facilities is completed, the factory and the company headquarters are transferred to the new location in Cacém.
1983
Certification of the company in accordance with ISO 9000 by APCER.
1998
EC marking in accordance with the requirements of the Medical Equipment Directive – 93/42 / EC, certified by the notified body LEMES.
2003
Conclusion of the new model LaVapor ECO 25, for cleaning and disinfection of basins, as well as another model of washers – LaVapor LD 21. Both equipments patented by A. J. Costa.
2004
EC marking in accordance with the requirements of Directive 97/23/EC – Pressure Equipment – for vertical steam sterilizers, Steri 21 and Amaro 5000 horizontal steam sterilizers, as well as steam generators GV 70.
2008
A.J.Costa is certified by the notified body SGS UK responsible for EC marking of products in accordance with the Medical Equipment Directive – 93/42/EEC, and with the EN 13485: 2004 Quality Management System Standard, among others. SGS also certifies the Pressure Equipment in accordance with Directive 97/23/EC. SGS certifies the Quality Management System in accordance with ISO 9001.
2009
Status of SME Leader, an annual merit award for small and medium-sized companies with superior performance, a status still held today. Participation, for the first time, in an international fair: MEDICA, in Düsseldorf (Germany).
2012
Participation, for the first time, Arab Health fair in Dubai, the largest fair in the Middle East.
